The Secret-Filled Life: Matthew 6: 1-18
How do you live out your spiritual life? Is it important that others need to know what and how you’ve served the Lord or spent your time?
Jesus exhorts us to do for others without recognition. We are to do for others, not really taking in the cause and effect of our giving. He, also, says we are to pray in secret so not to get the praise of men for our ‘spiritual’ words.
How do you measure up to those exhortations? Going forward how can you be a giver without being acknowledged or praised?
Prayer is an important part of our spiritual growth. Prayer is our lifeline. Jesus once again commands us to ‘fast and pray’. Take a few moments and ask the Lord how you can make one simple change to improve your prayer life?
As I’ve mentioned before, 1 degree of change will make a dramatic difference in your life.
I’m reminded of the scripture passage, Matthew 26:36-45, Jesus is in the garden with His disciples. He tells them to “Watch and Pray”. He leaves them to pray alone but comes back to find the disciples asleep. He wakes them and again urges them, “Could you not watch and pray with me one hour?” Picture the scene of Jesus in the Garden urging us to pray. Thomas Kinkade’s, “Garden of Prayer” perfectly portrays this. If you look carefully, through the opened gate, following the path into the garden, you will see a picture of Jesus standing. Kinkade did this to remind us that God is waiting for us, the door is always open, and He is desiring to commune with us. What a beautiful picture of His faithfulness and desire to communicate with us, guide us, give us peace, and help us through our everyday lives.
